2026’s 7 Deadly Sins of the Real Estate Market

I am a big fan of working/trying to eliminate the 7 Deadly Sins from my life and my actions. But like most of you I am human and not perfect. So I continue to practice. Which leads me to wonder what the real estate version of these are and how we can practice avoiding these errors. So HERE WE GO:

  • Lust – Shopping for homes before talking to a lender and figuring out how much you want to pay monthly. We all want more, but that leads to not loving what we have.
  • Greed – Overpricing the home you are selling because people will “See all the potential.” Your home is worth what the market will pay for it. When you buy remeber, this is a home and not a lottery ticket or 401k investment. Another example would be negotiating too hard and losing a deal other a minor issue or amount.
  • Gluttony – Wanting a forever home for your first home. Most people only live in a home for 8-10 years. There will be another meal or home later in life, plan accordingly.
  • Sloth – There are actions home buyers and sellers need to take to start the journey. Some of those actions can be taken months or weeks before you start touring or listing your home. Also, you need to be flexible with showing requests when selling – buyers will want to tour your home alot.
  • Wrath – Try to have grace with lenders, title companies, inspectors and the agent on the other side of the deal. They are trying their best to provide you with the best information and best deal on your next home. Do not kill the messenger and try to remain level headed.
  • Envy – Just because your neighbor with a pool, new roof, new hvac, and an extra bedroom sold their house for more money 2 years ago, that does not mean your home is currently worth that much. Prices and factors will change.
  • Pride – Do not discount someone telling you the truth if you do not agree with it. Listen to the entire explanation before making a decision or replying…

The seven deadly sins are “often called capital vices because they fuel other sins.” Which means they tend to lead to spiraling or more mistakes. While no one is perfect, practicing avoiding these leads to a better life and more successful Real Estate Transactions.

Call me to discuss what you think of this or any real estate goals you have this year.
